Connect BucketDesk to Claude and ChatGPT
How to add BucketDesk as a connector in Claude or ChatGPT, what the AI can and cannot do with your S3 files once it is connected, and how to disconnect it.
Add https://app.bucketdesk.com/mcp as a connector, sign in as a Business workspace admin, and Claude or ChatGPT can search, read, summarize and share the files in your connected S3 buckets, asking you before anything that sends or changes files.
The BucketDesk connector lets Claude and ChatGPT work with the files in the S3 buckets your workspace has connected. You ask in plain language, for example "find the Acme contract" or "what is the payment term in this MSA", and the assistant calls BucketDesk to search, read and share files for you.
The assistant never gets AWS keys. It signs in to BucketDesk with OAuth, and every call goes through the same permissions, audit log and bucket scopes as the BucketDesk app.
Before you connect
The connector is part of the Business plan. You sign in as an admin of the workspace you want to connect, and your workspace needs at least one bucket connected in BucketDesk.
Asking questions about PDFs and Office files also needs document chat turned on for that bucket's connection, because the answer comes from the AI model in your own AWS account.
Add it to Claude
In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, and add a custom connector with this URL. Claude opens a BucketDesk sign-in page. Sign in, confirm your password, choose the workspace and approve. The connector then shows up in the tools menu of any chat.
https://app.bucketdesk.com/mcpAdd it to ChatGPT
In ChatGPT, install BucketDesk from the Plugins directory once it is listed there, or add the same URL as a custom app in developer mode. ChatGPT opens the same BucketDesk sign-in page. Once you approve, pick BucketDesk from the plugins menu in a chat.
What the assistant can do
Read-only tools run without asking: list your bucket connections, browse folders, search file names across every bucket, read text files, and get file details such as size, dates and photo or video metadata.
Three tools change something, so Claude and ChatGPT ask before running them. Ask a document a question uses your own AWS AI model and costs AI usage. Create a share link emails one recipient a link that only works for their address and expires. Start an archive job lists, unpacks or zips files.
The connector cannot delete, upload or move files.
Privacy and data handling
BucketDesk reads file contents only when a tool needs them, for example to return a text file or answer a question about a document, and passes the result to the assistant you are using. File contents and search queries are not stored in BucketDesk's database. Questions and answers about a document are kept for 30 days so follow-up questions keep their context, then deleted. Tool calls appear in your workspace's audit log, just like actions taken in the app.
What Claude or ChatGPT keep from the conversation is covered by their own privacy policies.
Disconnect
Remove the connector in Claude or ChatGPT settings, or revoke it in BucketDesk under Settings, then API tokens, where it is listed as a connector token. Revoking it in BucketDesk ends the connection immediately, even if the AI app still lists it.
