Which data transfer is free in Amazon S3?

SHORT ANSWER

Four kinds of trip cost $0: files coming in, the first 100 GB a month going out, files moving between Amazon services in the same region, and files handed to the delivery network.

The lesson 3 film is on chapter 1.

The free trips

  • In. Uploading is free, however much you upload.
  • The first 100 GB out each month, about 25,000 photos, counted across your whole account.
  • Inside Amazon. From S3 to a server you rent from Amazon in the same region, free.
  • To CloudFront, the Amazon delivery network, free. CloudFront then charges its own lower rates with a bigger free allowance, which is why it sits in front of files served to the public.

The trips that cost

$0.09per GB
out to the internet past the free 100 GB, so $83 for a terabyte
$0.02per GB
to another Amazon region, so $20 for a terabyte
$0.085per GB
out through CloudFront instead, after its 1 TB a month free

Deleting is free too, with one twist. It comes two answers from now.

Prices are for US East, October 2026. Request, retrieval and data transfer prices has every rate and the steps.
